The CLPS Spring Musical Production Course “The Sound of Music”
Synopsis The Sound of Music is set in Austria on the eve of World War II. The story follows Maria, a young woman, who becomes governess for the von Trapp family. As Maria brings joy and music into their strict household, she forms a special bond with the seven von Trapp children. Maria and Captain von Trapp find themselves drawn to each other, as well. But their happiness is soon tested by the current political situation and challenges they encounter along the way.
Auditions Auditions will be held on Monday, December 4 and Wednesday, December 6 at 3:00 pm in the 5/6 Room for any 6-12 grade student interested in auditioning or being part of the stage or technical crews for this production. There will be callbacks on Friday, December 8 from 3:00-4:00 pm. At the beginning of the audition time on Monday, we will calm any fears you may have about auditioning and model how the audition will go. Then we will begin the auditions. You will audition in two ways: 1) music audition where you will sing a short selection from a song (see the songs below), and 2) acting auditing where you will read lines from a short selection of the script.
If you plan on auditioning for the show or being part of the tech crew, please complete this brief form.
Our goal is to send students home over the Christmas break with a script and part to memorize. This may not be possible for all roles.
If you are a 9-12 grader cast in a role, you will receive 2-hr fine art credit on your high school transcript for completing all required elements of the production course. The cost for this production course is $280 for actors.
Technicians will start attending rehearsals later in the course. Any 9-12 grade technician will receive a 1-hour fine arts credit on their transcript after completing all required elements of the production course. Their production course cost will be $140.
Rehearsal Schedule
Please see the rehearsal schedule below. There are no conflicts with CLPS sports, so please do not let that deter you from auditioning.
